SHB Da Nang ready for second Mekong match

SHB Da Nang are ready to compete with Yadanarbon of Myanmar in the second match of the Toyota Mekong Club Championship’s preliminary round on Friday at Ha Noi’s My Dinh Stadium.

To prepare for the match, Da Nang tested themselves in several friendly tournaments, beating Uganda’s SC Villa 2-1 and tying with Becamex Binh Duong 1-1. They have recruited footballers Ha Duc Chinh, Mac Duc Viet Anh and Bui Tien Dung for the tournament.

Earlier, Da Nang — who were the runners-up of the BTV- Number 1 Cup 2016 — suffered a 1-2 upset against Lanexang United of Laos in the first match.

Meanwhile, it is Yadanarbon’s first match of the tournament.

The Championship will be held from November 5 to January 8 next year in each of the five Mekong countries.

The total prize money for this year’s tournament--funded by Toyota Motor Asia Pacific in 2014 under the Toyota Mekong Football Project--is US$173,000, of which $75,000 will be presented to the overall champion.

The team will compete alongside Malaysia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Meanwhile, Group B consists of Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia and Timor Leste.

The tournament will be held in Laos in April or May next year.

It aims to develop young footballers in the region and create a chance for players to sharpen their skills for continental events.
