VietNamNet Bridge – For each cane priced VND13,000, the seller can process four cane-juice glasses, earning VND40,000 ($2). Selling hundreds of glasses of cane-juice a day, one can earn very high profit.
Cane-juice is a very popular soft drink in Vietnam. In the summer, hundreds of cane-juice shops appear on the sidewalks in Hanoi. The price for a bundle of 10 canes is VND130,000 and they are delivered to home. Each cane can be processed into 3-4 glasses of cane-juice, sold for VND10,000/glass. The profit from a bundle of canes is between VND300,000 ($15) and VND500,000 ($25).
"Every day I can earn VND1.2 to VND2 million of revenue. The monthly profit can reach VND20 million ($1,000)," said Ms. Lam, a cane-juice seller on the sidewalk in front of the dorm of the National Economics University in Hanoi.
Some cane-juice sellers at the My Dinh Stadium said the season for cane juice usually lasts from late March until early October.
"Revenue from cane juice every day here can be up to several millions dong. Profit from sugarcane juice is less than from lemon tea because cane-juice is real, not mixed with chemicals," a sugarcane juice seller in front of My Dinh Stadium said.
Phong, who lives in Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, Hanoi, the employee of a travel firm, said that since the beginning of the summer, he family has sold cane juice in the evening. According to Phong, he sells cane juice from 6 pm to 11pm, earning daily revenue of VND600,000-VND700,000.
However, many cane juice sellers said that earnings from this soft drink is equivalent to that from grilled corn in the winter, while the labor is more because it is very hard to peel sugarcane.
