VietNamNet Bridge – The Singapore embassy in Vietnam has given scholarships worth a total of US$702,000 to six students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The students will fly to Singapore from July 27 to follow three or four-year academic programmes at the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Singapore Management University (SMU).

The full scholarships are provided by the Singapore Government. Each student will receive US$117,000, which includes school fees, a return plane ticket and daily living expenses.

The scholarship recipients are Phan Cong Minh from the Hanoi University of Technology, Do Tuan Nguyen from the National Economics University and Nguyen Minh Tam from the Foreign Trade University; Nguyen Quoc Duy Tan and Le Trung Hieu from the HCM City University of Technology, and Ngo Phan Bao Tran from the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.      

* VN's maths Olympiad team suffers

Viet Nam's team suffered a setback at the 52nd International Mathematical Olympiad in the Netherlands this year, winning just six bronze medals, the Ministry of Education and Training has reported.

Viet Nam, with a team of six students, ranked 31st out of 90 delegations. China ranked first, followed by the US and Singapore.

Last year, Viet Nam won one gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

Next year's competition will be held in Argentina.
