Over the past 20 years, the association has expanded in all parts of the country with 2.6 million members and more than 1 million former servicemen. Nearly 50,000 members have been appointed to key positions of Party organizations at all levels and 10,000 have become actively involved in administration-related activities.

Many movements launched by the VWVA have helped war veterans improve their living standards and raise their self-reliant spirit and drive to succeed as a contribution to socio-economic development.

Delegates proposed that the Party and State should adopt policies aiming to help the association play its full role, and pay more attention to State management in combination with boosting socio-economic development, ensuring national security to bring the resolution adopted at the fourth plenum of the Party Central Committee to life.

In his speech, President Sang praised the wholehearted devotion to the process of national construction and defence exhibited by generations of soldiers and war veterans.

In the 23 years since its establishment, the VWVA’s chapters have affirmed their important role in society while being a reliable mainstay of Party organizations, administrations and people throughout the country, he said.

Mr Sang said he hopes Vietnamese war veterans will continue to uphold its tradition, set a shining example for younger generations to follow suit and make more contributions to the process of national construction and defence.
