The Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam on July 29 decided to prosecute six Dong Nai FC players, who had been arrested for match fixing after a V-League match, for gambling and organising gambling.

The players were among 10 people involved in the case, according to the Investigation Agency under the Ministry of Public Security.

They were Nguyen Duc Thien, Phan Luu The Son, Nguyen Thanh Long Giang, Ha Niem Tien, Dinh Kien Trung, and Pham Huu Phat.

The four other defenders were Tran Van Ba, Nguyen Phuc Thuan, Do Hoang Ha, and Tran Dinh Hai, all from Dong Nai.

Earlier the Police Department for Investigation of Social Order-related Crimes on July 21 detained the six Dong Nai FC players charged with match fixing in a V-League match between Dong Nai and Quang Ninh Coal.

Dong Nai FC Captain Pham Huu Phat, allegedly considered the mastermind, confessed that he and his teammates betted for a loss to Quang Ninh at a price of VND400 million (US$19,000) with Nguyen Phuc Thuan, an illegal better, via a website with a server located abroad.

After searching players’ houses, the police seized eight mobile phones, three laptops and VND400 million (US$19,000).
