As soon as the deaths were reported, the hospital turned off its dialysis machines and transferred the living patients to Hoa Binh City’s General Hospital for emergency aid.

Director of the province’s Department of Health Tran Quang Khanh said that patients were given intensive care and doctors from Ha Noi-based Bach Mai Hospital were summoned to the northern province for further medical assessment.

“The doctors will also help detect the cause of the incident,” Khanh said, adding that the investigation would require time.

Luong Ngoc Khue, director general of the Medical Examination and Treatment Department under Ministry of Health said that when informed of the case, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien assigned him to lead a ministry’s group to Hoa Binh on the same day to deliver assistance and detect the incident’s causes.
