South Korean actor Hyun Bin and actress Song Hye-kyo officially announced that they had broken up in January, their agencies said Tuesday.

According to the agencies of both stars, the pair split up early this year, after first meeting on the set of the drama "The World We Live In" in 2008.


The break-up came naturally as they drifted apart due to their busy drama, movie, and overseas schedules, their agencies said, adding the excessive amount of attention they had received from the public caused them so much stress.


The agencies also said the two postponed the announcement until now because they "did not want the public's attention to be focused on their break-up rather than their respective works." Hyun Bin also did not want his remaining time with fans before his enlistment to be overshadowed by his personal life, the agencies added.


Hyun Bin, who recently starred in a hit TV drama "Secret Garden, " joined the Marine Corps on Monday for his mandatory military service, greeted by some 2,000 fans from South Korea as well as Japan, Hong Kong SAR and China.


Song Hye-kyo has starred in a number of hit dramas including " Autumn in My Heart," "All In," and "Full House."
