On the evening of November 18, General Secretary To Lam received Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kalinak in Hanoi, marking another step forward in the close friendship between the two countries.

The General Secretary affirmed that Slovakia has always been a faithful and close friend of Vietnam. He expressed his gratitude to the Slovak government and people for their longstanding support and solidarity with Vietnam over the past 75 years.

He highly appreciated the outcomes of the meeting between Minister Robert Kalinak and Vietnamese Minister of Defense General Phan Van Giang, stating that defense cooperation between the two countries has yielded many positive results and become one of the key pillars of bilateral relations.

General Secretary To Lam proposed strengthening cooperation in areas such as defense industry, military training, and peacekeeping operations.

He also emphasized the importance of leveraging the high level of political trust between the two countries by maximizing the effectiveness of current consultation and cooperation mechanisms. He encouraged greater connections between government agencies and businesses, aiming to turn economic, scientific, and technological cooperation into a new pillar of bilateral relations.

The General Secretary also highlighted the potential for further collaboration in culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

On this occasion, he conveyed greetings and an official invitation to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to visit Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Robert Kalinak reiterated that Slovakia is proud to have stood by Vietnam’s side for the past 75 years. He called Vietnam one of Slovakia’s most important partners in the region.

He expressed Slovakia’s desire to deepen and improve multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the field of national defense.

Minister Kalinak agreed with the views shared by General Secretary To Lam and confirmed that Slovakia is committed to working with relevant ministries, sectors, and Vietnamese partners to elevate bilateral relations to match their full potential.

Also on the same day, General Secretary To Lam received Mr. Vincent Clerc, CEO of Danish conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk.

The General Secretary welcomed the positive development of the Vietnam–Denmark Comprehensive Partnership established in 2013, and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in November 2023. He said these cooperation frameworks provide strong momentum for comprehensive and sustainable development across all areas.

He noted that Vietnam is focused on developing infrastructure, including seaports, with an emphasis on green growth to meet its sustainable development goals. He praised Maersk’s vision in building green ports and promoting green transport.

The General Secretary encouraged the company to expand its investments in Vietnam’s maritime economy, including smart green port systems and logistics services.

Vietnam, he emphasized, always creates favorable conditions for foreign investors developing logistics projects that connect regions, urban areas, and industrial zones domestically and internationally.

Vietnam now ranks among the world's top 20 economies in terms of international trade scale. The country is pushing for a more extensive and synchronized transport infrastructure network to increase national competitiveness.

Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc emphasized Vietnam’s importance as a strategic partner. He recalled that Maersk’s vessels first docked in Vietnam over a century ago.

Clerc shared details of Maersk’s business operations in Vietnam, ongoing partnerships, and the group’s strategic shift toward sustainable logistics.

He expressed Maersk’s interest in exploring major investment opportunities in Vietnam, including large-scale, modern, and green container ports as well as strategic logistics projects.
