VietNamNet Bridge – Beeline has set up the ambition to become Number One among small mobile networks. S-Fone thinks of technology transfer in order to dominate the market, while Vietnamobile has launched super-cheap fee packages.

The mobile service market has been developing strongly with boundaries among service providers having been fixed. The three “big guys” VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel have been dominating the market, while only a small piece of the market cake has been left for small networks.

However, the left piece of cake, though being small, is still attractive enough for “small guys” which have been competing fiercely with each other to obtain the piece of the cake. A lot of special sales promotion campaigns have been launched by the small networks to attract clients, which have been described by analysts that the service providers have “declared war” to redefine the market shares.

In the morning of June 24, Beeline officially announced the returning to the market with the committed investment capital by the foreign partner of up to 500 million dollars, which has made experts think about a new war on the mobile service market.

Together with the announcement about the investment strategy, at the press conference held on the same day, Beeline introduced its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Michael Cluzel – who reportedly has many experiences in dominating the telecom markets in Asia Pacific.

Beeline has described the new appointment as a necessary move to make it get adapted to the new circumstances of the market after it has learnt lessons from the two-year operation in Vietnam.

The new CEO said that with the new investment sum, Beeline will have the opportunities to expand the network coverage, upgrade the service quality and expand the market share.

“Our ambition is to become the fourth biggest network in Vietnam, after MobiFone, VinaPhone and Viettel. This means that we plan to hold the number one position among the four other mobile networks,” he said.

Beeline has announced that it will not join the race of reducing charges, but it will focus on developing infrastructure, network and expand the network coverage in order to be able to rapidly develop the number of subscribers from the current figure of 800,000.

Also cherishing the ambition of becoming the “king” among the four small networks, Vietnamobile has been continuously launching super-cheap service packages which allow users to make free inner-network calls and enjoy big discounts for inter-network calls.

The managers of Vietnamobile have expressed their ambition to hold the fourth position on the mobile service market, after MobiFone, VinaPhone and Viettel, in terms of the number of subscribers, coverage and the services’ attractiveness.

Vietnamobile has every reason to believe in a bright prospect of the network. Among the four small networks, Vietnamobile now has the highest number of subscribers – 10 million.

“We will continue launching onto the market the service packages with surprisingly low charges in order to stimulate the demand and try to conquer the remaining market share,” a senior executive of Vietnamobile said.

S-Fone, after a period of facing big difficulties due to the disagreements with the foreign partner, has also announced its returning to the market. S-Fone’s General Director Pham Tien Thinh said the company is trying to complete the shifting of operation model before seeking domestic and foreign strategic partners. Once the capital problem is settled, the network will gather strength on carrying out the activities to compete in the call charges, service quality and added value services.

“S-Fone recently has been quiet due to the shifting of the operation model. We will overcome the period to make a strong presence on the market by providing high quality services at reasonable fees which deserve customers’ money,” Thinh said.

Of the existing four small mobile networks, including Vietnamobile, Beeline, S-Fone and EVN Telecom, the business of EVN Telecom proves to be the faintest in the market, even though EVN Telecom is the only one of the four that has the license for 3G services with the investment capital of up to trillions of dong.

Due to the problems in technologies, the telecom company has been facing many difficulties in calling for investment.
