The ITS project on HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway comes with two components. The first component includes an intelligent traffic management and operation center which will manage HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway initially and the entire expressway network in the country’s south later.

The facility is equipped with servers, network operation and management systems, and traffic control systems to closely monitor and regulate traffic.

The second component includes a system of traffic monitoring devices set up along HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway, the roads leading to the expressway, and interchanges. These devices check the traffic situation and indentify the types of autos using the road.

Invested by Cuu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure (Cuu Long CIPM), the US$38.5 million project was funded by soft loans from South Korea and reciprocal capital of the Vietnam Government.

The 40-kilometer HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway was opened to traffic in 2010. Initially, cars were allowed to travel at the maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour but it was reduced to 100 kilometers per hour later.
