VietNamNet Bridge - After more than a week enjoying the lunar New Year, thousands of people in the southern province of Soc Trang went to the local police bureau to get identity cards before getting back to work in Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, in the neighboring provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Hau Giang ... there were only a few hundred of people seeking ID cards.

On the morning of February 18, nearly 1,000 people flocked to the office of the Police for Administrative Management of Social Order of Soc Trang province to make identity cards.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Thu, Vice chief of the office, says that the office began receiving applications ID cards very early, from February 15 (Tet holiday) in order to facilitate local people to get ID cards before they return to Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces to find jobs.

On February 15-16, more than 500 people went to the office to make ID cards. The number reached over 1,000 on February 18. The office mobilized its entire staff to serve the people.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Thu, to get their ID cards, people only have to pay VND15,000 dong ($0.6) for a portrait. Thu said a lot of people get ID cards in the early of the year because many of them lost their ID cards or their ID cards are too old. In addition, a large number of young people need the ID cards to seek jobs in other provinces.
