VietNamNet Bridge – A woman in the southern province of Soc Trang has delivered a conjoined twins.
The woman was admitted to a local hospital in the morning of October 12. Doctors performed an examination and found out that the baby has two heads. They decided to do cesarean on the afternoon of the same day.

The woman is over 30 years old, from Chau Thanh district. This was her second child.

Doctors said that the conjoined twins have two heads, two hearts, two spinal columns, two legs and one female sex organ. The conjoined twins have two hands, with six fingers each, in the front, and one hand with three fingers behind.

The twins was quite weak at birth so they had to use respiratory machine. However, the twins recovered at night and are in good health now.

The mother said she made ultrasound tests during the pregnant period but doctors did not discover that the baby has two heads. Doctors only defined the heart beats from two hearts, so the mother was very happy, thinking that she would have a twins.

The twins were transferred to the Children’s Hospital 1 in HCM City one day after birth. Doctor Dao Trung Hieu, the hospital’s deputy director, said that this is a very rare incomplete twin.

Hieu said that the hospital would perform a complete exam of the baby’s internal organs before holding a consultation to make final decision. He said this is a difficult case.
