She reportedly lied to people that her bank had assigned her to mobilize deposits at interest rates of up to 10 percent a month to repay other deposits that had fallen due.
Attracted by the interest rate, many people handed over large sums and received just handwritten receipts from her.
One of the victims, T.T.Tr., had handed over VND7.2 billion ($350,000) for which he received a fake receipt with the forged signature and stamp of Nguyen Hong Nam, the head of a department at ACB.
Using the same trick, she later got another VND5.6 billion from Tr.
Once Huong got money from her victims, she avoided them and did not answer their calls.
Huong, 30, of Ninh Kieu district had worked at the bank’s Can Tho branch until May 15 when she was dismissed for cheating, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Hoang Be, deputy head of the city Economic Crime Investigation Police Department, said.
The police searched her home for documents related to her crime.
They called on her victims to contact investigators at 9B Tran Phu Street, Ninh Kieu District or call 07103 882215.
Woman’s corpse found floating on Huong River
While travelling on board a ferry on the Huong (Perfume) River at 8 am this morning, a man spotted the corpse of a woman floating near the Phu Xuan Bridge in Hue City.
He asked the ferry to pull over at café Long Gio, 30 meters from the corpse, so that he could inform local residents.
After getting the information from the man, Chung Nguyen Anh Tuan, a guest at the café, came over to the scene and found the dead body lying face down in the river, with long hair on her back.
He subsequently reported the body to a traffic policeman on duty at the foot of the bridge.
The policeman then reported the case to the city police, who later arrived at the scene, dispersed the curious crowds, and pulled the corpse ashore.
The police are investigating the case.
Man detained for extortion via ‘undressing’ clip
Ho Chi Minh City police yesterday said they had detained Dinh Quoc Dung, 38, in District 8 for blackmailing a 25-year-old girl by threatening to disseminate a video clip of her undressing that he secretly shot.
He also forced the victim to have sex with him at a hotel.
After his arrest, he told the police that he only knew N.T.H.H of District 10 recently through online chat and they often communicated via webcams.
About ten days ago, after a normal chat, H. forgot to turn off her webcam and when she and her 20-year-old sister changed clothes in front of the camera, Dung saw and videotaped it all.
Dung used his mobile phone to record the scene shown on his webcam.
A few days later, he chatted with H. and demanded her to make love with him at a hotel besides giving him VND10 million (US$486).
H. agreed with Dung and then reported to the police.
On June 6, when Dung was receiving the money from H. at café shop Eleven at 29 Le Anh Xuan Street, District 1, police rushed in and seized him.
The District 1 police said Dung was still in their custody and would be charged for extortion.

Site clearance starts for Ke Ga deepwater port
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has allowed the south central province of Binh Thuan to start site clearance for the construction of Ke Ga Port.
The PM called on provincial authorities to clearly define how much land it would need for the successful and efficient completion of the project.
With investment from the Viet Nam Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corp (Vinacomin), construction is set to take place on land within Tan Thanh Commune in the Ham Thuan Nam District of Binh Thuan Province, previously allocated to 12 tourism projects. The completed deep-water port will cover 366ha, including 2km of coastline.
"Assisted by both investors and related authorities, we believe we have found the best spot for constructing the port," a local official confirmed.
Port construction will be divided into four phases, the first of which will see the development of a 3.5-million-tonne-per-year capacity.
All four phases are planned to reach completion by 2020, hopefully to assist in cutting transportation costs associated with bauxite projects amongst others.
"Bauxite will be transported from the Central Highland province of Dac Nong to Binh Thuan Province by train, after which it will be sent to customers from Ke Ga Port," the official said.

Water identified as culprit in tourists’ poisoning
After testing more than 30 food and water samples at Tam Chau Restaurant, health agencies discovered that it was dirty well water that caused food poisoning to hundreds of tourists who had eaten there on the way to Da Lat resort town.
The conclusion was made following a joint investigation conducted by the Lam Dong Province Health Department, the Food Safety and Hygiene Department, and the Central Highlands Hygiene and Epidemiology Institute.
Tam Chau Restaurant, which was set up in Bao Lam District a year ago, has mainly used drilled well water for food processing and cooking. It did not have the water tested, the department said.
Meanwhile, the restaurant has been a stop-over for a large number of travelers on their way to Da Lat, the department added.
It was estimated that 2,000 guests ate at Tam Chau per day and the number could reach 3,000-4,000 on holidays.
Earlier, in the first week of June, the Da Lat Health Center, Lam Dong General Hospital, and Hoan My Da Lat Hospital treated 439 visitors to Da Lat for food poisoning after they ate at some local restaurants, the Department of Health reported.
All the tourists hospitalized at the Da Lat Health Center said they had eaten at Tam Chau Restaurant before proceeding to Da Lat.
Most of the patients developed food poisoning symptoms 25-30 hours after having meals at the restaurant.
However, relevant agencies said that the contaminated water at Tam Chau might not be the only cause of all recent poisoning cases in Da Lat, since many of the victims had eaten at more than one restaurant on the way to the city.
The provincial Health Department said it would have an official conclusion in a few days, when the results of testing of samples from other restaurants are available.
The department has requested Tam Chau to suspend operations and take some necessary hygiene measures under the department’s instructions.
For the past several days, Da Lat’s relevant agencies have inspected 12 restaurants and hotels where the food-poisoned tourists stayed or ate. Many of these establishments have been penalized for violating regulations on food safety and hygiene.
