Localities have been asked to consider closing schools for one or two more weeks if coronavirus continues spreading, said Government Office Chairman and Minister Mai Tien Dung.

According to Dung, it was vital to temporarily shut schools for sterilisation.

To date, schools in 62 cities and provinces nationwide have allowed their students to stay at home from three days to one week for the disease prevention, except for Ben Tre Province.

Dung added that if the epidemic continues, localities can consider shutting schools for one or two more weeks.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said that students have one week for the revised class each term or their revised class schedule could be at the weekend.

The ministry may take into account extending the school year beyond May 31, meaning that students will have a shorter summer holiday.

The high school graduation examination schedule could be changed, Do noted. Vietnamnet/DTinews
