Police in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District discovered a shop producing counterfeit licence plates for cars and bikes. This morning, officers searched the shop on 46 Tran Nhat Duat Street and discovered a number of license plates and tools to manufacture them.

The shop’s owner was named as Dao Gia T, residing in Dong Da District. The man admitted to buying a pressing machine from a stranger for VND7 million (US$300) and producing the plates.

The fake plates were sold at prices of VND150,000 to 400,000 (US$6.5 to US$17) each, with prices differing depending on the vehicle.

The police arrested T and seized the pressing machine, a stamp with a police logo, 30 fake plates and 20 aluminum ingots.

The case is under further investigation. — VNS
