The hotel featured on the magazine's 2022 World's Best Awards list.
Founded in 1901, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is one of the oldest hotels in the capital and has been used to serve former US presidents, including Barack Obama, during their past visits to the country.
The hotel is home to a two-metre-high wartime bomb shelter which was discovered by chance in 2011. It was where many famous figures of the Vietnam War, including actress Jane Fonda and author Tom Hayden, both anti-war activists, took refugee as bombs rained down on Hanoi.
Travel + Leisure magazine also recommended that tourists try classic Vietnamese cuisine like spring rolls and pho (a type of noodle soup), and other Western delicacies such as eggs benedict and French toast while staying at the hotel.
Meanwhile, the World's Best Awards also named Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi among the top 25 Hotel Brands in the world.
The hotel was earlier awarded a five-star rating, the top level of recognition from Forbes Travel Guide in its independent assessment of luxury hotels, restaurants, and spas. This marks the third consecutive year the hotel has had its name among the rankings.
Moreover, readers of British magazine Condé Nast Traveler voted Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi among Asia's top 30, while Fodor’s Travel listed the hotel among the top 101 Most Incredible Hotels in the World.
