Officials are hoping that the project will serve as a model to other hamlets across the nation.
The VND14.8 billion (US$740,000) project that was funded by the HCM City Electricity Company has an operational capacity of 100KWh.
The Company is planning to build 172 solar-energy panels to provide power to households and seven public places in Thieng Lieng hamlet.
In 1990, the first 300Wp solar unit was installed in Can Gio District, which has provided power to homes and public institutions across the district.
