In recent days, armed forces from Khanh Hoa, the Ministry of National Defense, Military Region 5, and the Navy have maintained 24/7 operations in flood-stricken hotspots. With the guiding principle “help where the water recedes,” soldiers pushed through isolation zones and landslides to reach those in need.
At the height of the flood, units used motorboats and specialized vehicles to evacuate thousands of residents trapped in rising waters to safety.
Naval Region 4 alone deployed thousands of officers and dozens of mobile vehicles for search and rescue, relief supply transportation, and urgent medical assistance.
The Naval Academy also sent nearly 400 officers and cadets to wards in South and West Nha Trang as well as Dien Khanh District, working alongside local authorities to reach isolated households, delivering food, clean water, milk, and life vests directly to residents.
As floodwaters receded, soldiers continued to fan out into heavily damaged areas to clean up mud, remove debris, and sanitize the environment.
The 5th Waterborne Commando Brigade (part of the Special Forces) stationed in Phan Rang sent teams to help clean and disinfect schools and educational facilities in West Nha Trang, rearranging furniture and restoring learning spaces.
According to the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee, the province mobilized over 15,000 personnel and 500 vehicles in total, evacuating 3,200 households - nearly 13,000 people.
Preliminary figures show the flood left 15 people dead and 20 injured, with more than 30,000 households in Tay Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Dien Dien, and Ninh Hoa submerged under 1 to 3 meters of water. Authorities estimate the total damage at approximately 5 trillion VND (around 204 million USD).
In response, the province rolled out emergency relief policies. Households whose homes were completely destroyed receive 60 million VND (around 2,450 USD), while those with severely damaged homes receive 30 million VND (around 1,225 USD). Each flood-affected person is supported with 1 million VND (about 40 USD), and students receive 500,000 VND (about 20 USD) for books and school supplies.
