According to VietKings, Vietnam will ask WorldKings to recognize Son Doong Cave as the largest natural cave in the world.

Son Doong cave is located in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. The cave was formed around 2 to 5 million years ago.

Son Doong is five times larger than nearby caves like Phong Nha Cave and Hang En, the third largest cave in the world previously considered the biggest cave in Vietnam. The main passage in Son Doong is more than 5 kilometres long, 200 metres high and 150 metres wide. With these dimensions, Son Doong overtook Deer Cave in Malaysia in 2009 to take the title of the world's largest cave.

The cave runs for approximately nine kilometres and is punctuated by two large dolines, which are areas where the ceiling of the cave has collapsed. The dolines allow sunlight to enter sections of the cave and have resulted in the growth of trees as well as other vegetation.

The cave contains some of the tallest known stalagmites in the world, up to 70 m tall. Behind the Great Wall of Vietnam were found cave pearls the size of baseballs, an abnormally large size.

The World Guinness Organization recognized Son Doong the largest cave in the world. However, this world record was awarded to the British Royal Cave Association, although the Guinness World Book in 2015 said the first who discovered Son Doong was a Vietnamese farmer named Ho Khanh.
