VietNamNet Bridge – The volume of water leaked through the dam of Song Tranh 2 hydro-power plant has reduced by 98 percent, to 1.5 liters per second, reported a senior official of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Tho, Vice Chief of the General Department of Energy, said at a press conference on May 2 that experts did not find out abnormal cracks in the corridor and the body of the dam yet.

Mr. Tho said that the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) had finalized the first step of repair: clearing the water drainage system and leading leak water into the drainage system. Experts are conducting the second step: dealing with water leaked through expansion joints. So far, 90 percent of leaked water has been solved and the volume of water leaked through the dam has dropped to 1.5 liters per second.

The official said that the incident will be completely fixed before July 31, 2012.

Answering questions of correspondents about the case of EVN’s former chair Dao Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Nam Hai said that the Ministry had sent its conclusion on Hung’s case to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

According to Mr. Hai, the Ministry’s opinion is partly different from self-criticism report of EVN but he did not go into details because “The Ministry is waiting for the PM’s official conclusion.”

Earlier, PM Nguyen Tan Dung dismissed EVN’s Chair Dao Van Hung for EVN’s weakness in business, including the failure of EVN Telecom.
