Many illegal bus stopovers have been reported on National Highway No 1A near Binh Phuoc crossroads and near petrol stations in Thanh Binh and Hue Thien communes in Thu Duc District.
In the evenings, many buses pick up passengers and load or unload cargo at bus stopovers illegally set up at Dien Bien Phu Street near Van Thanh Bridge in HCM City’s Binh Thanh District.
Illegal bus stopovers are also common on National Highway No 51 in Dong Nai Province and on National Highway No 13 in Binh Duong Province.
A new inspection campaign is being conducted at bus stopovers and terminals between February 5 and March 2. Violators will be seriously punished, a spokesman from the Inspection Division of the HCM City’s transport department said.
Tran Quoc Khanh, chief inspector of the department, said inspections would be conducted regularly on National Highway No 13, No 22, and No 1A (the stretch from Binh Phuoc Bridge in Thu Duc District to Suoi Tien Tourist Park in District 9), on Dien Bien Phu Street in Binh Thanh District, and at the Western and Eastern Bus Terminals.
Transport inspectors will seriously punish violators, especially for illegal pickup of passengers.
The Department of Transport in Dong Nai Province has urged agencies to punish illegal bus and coach services and those using unauthorised bus stopovers and terminals.
Dong Nai traffic police force will conduct patrols and punish violators for exceeding the speed limit, overloading, travelling in the wrong lane, and illegally outrunning other vehicles.
Nguyen Do Vu, chief inspector from Binh Duong Province’s Department of Transport, said the department had plans to put unlicensed bus and coach services under control during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays.

Tran Chi Trung, head of the centre, made the petition at a meeting with the city’s transport department on Friday.
Trung proposed to charge zero dong for luxury bus routes No 109 and No 152 connecting the downtown and the airport for 10 heavy-traffic days prior and after Tet.
He also sought the airport’s approval to open two bus routes starting from Cho Lon Bus Station and Mien Dong Bus Station to the airport during the days.
The transport department expects the number of passengers passing through the airport this Tet holiday to increase 25 per cent compared to last Tet.
Thanks to the recent opening of the two bridges of the N-shaped flyover at the Nguyen Thai Son-Nguyen Kiem roundabout in Go Vap District, traffic congestion near the airport has been reduced.
To ensure traffic safety and order during the holiday season, local authorities at Tan Binh, Go Vap and Phi Nhuan districts have been instructed to stop people from conducting business on roadsides and sidewalks, especially on the streets near the airport and Gia Dinh Park.
