VietNamNet Bridge – The third Southern Traditional Cake Festival will take place from April 26 to May 1 at the Phu Tho Stadium in District 11 in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the five-day festival, about 100 varieties of traditional cakes from the southern regions, dating back thousands of years will be displayed.

The most famous of these well-known traditional cakes are ‘Banh Tet’, a cylindrical glutinous rice cake filled with green bean paste and pork fat; ‘Banh U’, a small pyramid shaped glutinous rice cake; ‘Banh Khot’, a molded rice cake with green peas; ‘Bánh Tam Bi’, a silkworm noodle cake with pork skin; ‘Banh Tet La Cam’, a violet cylindrical glutinous rice cake; and another one which is a Can Tho specialty.

The basic ingredient for all these cakes is rice flour.

The festival will have an exhibition area, photo galleries, a performance area, arts and crafts display, local products and traditional food brands.

Visitors will also be able to participate in the making of different kinds of cakes, folk games and contests such as wrapping of the cylindrical glutinous rice cakes, pancake frying and trimming of vegetables.
