The French composer’s classic brings together jealousy, betrayal and death in the form of contemporary opera and ballet. It is two parts with Roma symphony in C Major under the baton of Tran Nhat Minh before performances by Nguyen Thu Trang, Ho Phi Diep, Pham Duc Nhuan and the HBSO artists finish the performance.
Set in early 19th century Seville, Carmen, directed by Swede Helena Rohr and conducted by Brit Graham Sutcliffe, follows the epic story of a beautiful but fiery gypsy girl Carmen, who finds herself in the midst of a love triangle between her boyfriend Don Jose, an army soldier, and bullfighter Escamillo.
When Jose finds out she is seeing Escamillo, he loses the plot and vows to kill her.
