The Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group on November 15 released a stamp celebrating the 100th birthday of famous music composer, poet, and painter Van Cao (1923 – 1995) who composed the Vietnamese national anthem “The Marching Song”.

The stamp, designed by painter Pham Quang Dieu, features a portrait of composer Van Cao and a sheet of music and lyrics of the Vietnamese national anthem.

The stamp measures 43x32mm and is printed in VND4,000 denomination. It is available in the postal network from November 15 to June 30, 2025.

Van Cao was born on November 15, 1923, in the northern city of Hai Phong and he composed “The Marching Song” in 1944. The original version of the song was chosen by President Ho Chi Minh to be the national anthem and was subsequently edited by the National Assembly in 1955.

He was also the author of famous romantic songs featuring love and aspirations for peace. In 1996 he was posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Music.

His name is also given to many beautiful streets in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, and Nam Dinh.
