Hợp đồng HLV Park Hang Seo: VFF tự tin điều khoản 'kích hoạt'

Coach Park Hang Seo (right) is under great pressure in 2021.

On November 7, 2019, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Coach Park Hang Seo extended the contract for two years. The Korean coach receives a monthly salary of $50,000.

The special provision is that the contract will automatically be extended for one more year if both parties agree. Mr. Park's 2-year contract is about to end in 10 months.

According to VFF Secretary General Le Hoai Anh, three months before the end of the contract, the two sides will sit down to discuss the future. If they agree to continue their cooperation, the contract will immediately be valid and they will not need to negotiate and sign a new one. The salary of the Korean coach will remain unchanged next year.

In case the two sides cannot find a common voice for some reason, they will say goodbye to each other. Both the insiders and fans do not expect this scenario to happen, because Mr. Park has helped Vietnamese football win many victories, and the Korean coach has gained a lot from working in Vietnam.

Go beyond employment contract

This year coach Park has been assigned a lot of important tasks by VFF, including taking Vietnam to the final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia, winning a card to the final of the Asia U23 championship, and defending the championship title at SEA Games and the AFF Cup.

Mr. Park understands the expectations of VFF and Vietnamese fans. Over the past year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, activities of the Vietnamese teams were almost "frozen", but the Korean coach was still paid by the VFF.

"I understand the pressure and am aware of my responsibility. It is not easy to meet the Vietnamese fans' expectations. But I will try to bring into play all the resources and allocate the time properly to achieve the set target," said Mr. Park.

Vietnamese football needs Mr. Park, and vice versa

The VFF is very confident that Coach Park Hang Seo will continue to stick with Vietnamese football, even for a long time to come. A VFF official said: "Mr. Park is doing his job very well, and we think there is no reason for Coach Park Hang Seo to refuse to renew the contract."

The VFF needs Mr. Park and vice versa. In addition to professional issues, Coach Park Hang Seo also plays a role as a link between Vietnam and Korea in many fields. He has helped raise the image of the two countries and create pride among the public, so the relationship between VFF and Mr. Park will last long.

Park Hang-seo denies rumored interest from Korean team

Head coach of the Vietnam national football team Park Hang-seo has denied rumors that he is set to return to his home country the Republic of Korea to coach his national team.

According to rumors, the proposal was made to the coach by a Korean middleman during a recent meeting with Park.

Park inked a contract with the Vietnam Football Federation to coach Vietnam’s national and U23 football teams until 2022.

Although his salary has not been revealed, it has been reported that he is being paid approximately US$50,000 per month, which would make him the highest-paid coach in the nation's history.

Under the deal, three months before the contract expires, the coach and the VFF will discuss future plans. Providing that the two sides reach a consensus, the contract will remain valid without the need to sign an extension.

However, VTC News reported the Korean strategist hit back at rumours, saying it’s not the right time now to talk about the deal and he wants to work hard for the two Vietnamese football squads.

2021 will see Park and the two Vietnamese teams play a number of crucial fixtures.

At present, Park is spending the majority of his time planning tactics in preparation for the country’s remaining games in Group G of the Asian region’s qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.

The remaining 2022 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region have been delayed until June due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam top Group G with 11 points, two points higher than Malaysia in second. Elsewhere, Thailand are third with eight points, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are in fourth with six points, followed by Indonesia who are bottom with zero points.

The national team will also compete in the AFF Cup which is scheduled to take place in December.

The U22 team will also be defending their trophy at the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games which is scheduled to take place in the country in late 2021, along with qualifiers for the 2022 AFC U-23 Championship. VOV
