The number of visitors to Nha Trang city in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa has increased sharply for the upcoming Liberation Day (April 30) and May Day national holidays, leading to a rise in the price of hotel accommodation.
In April, Khanh Hoa province is expected to welcome more than 520,000 visitors including 250,000 foreign arrivals, a 2.5-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
Most of the international tourists are from Russia and China, travelling to Nha Trang on holidays organised through tour operators.
Most of the rooms at 3-5 star hotels are fully booked as many travel companies made bulk reservations in preparation for the holidays.
Some small hotels near beaches have raised the price of rooms by three to four times their normal rates. Several tourists have accepted the steep increase in the nightly rates due to a lack of information.
Travel companies have warned tourists to research the current and regular prices of accommodation through the internet or by telephone before going to Nha Trang.
Dang Thanh Quan, director of an international travel company in Nha Trang city said some 3 and 5 star hotels have exploited the situation to hike up their prices.
Normally, the hotel rooms cost between VND200,000 and VND250,000 per night but the prices have been driven up to VND1-1.2 million at peak season.
