Son mates at national blitz chess tourney

Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son won the men's blitz event at the 17th National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in HCM City recently.

He took eight points after nine rounds.

Nguyen Anh Dung of Quang Ninh and Oliver Barbosa of Military were second and third respectively.

It was Son's third gold medal after receiving two golds in the men's singles and team's rapid event earlier. He failed to get the fourth when his team, Kien Giang, finished third of four in the men's team blitz event. HCM City led the rankings and Military took second place.

In the women's section, Luong Phuong Hanh of Ha Noi won the blitz event, followed by Vo Thi Kim Phung of Thua Thien-Hue and Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Ha Noi.

In the team's blitz competition, Thua Thien Hue topped the rankings, followed by Ha Noi and Bac Giang.

The tournament ended yesterday, July 10.

Teen shooters take aim in Ha Noi

Around 100 shooters will be competing in the National Teenage Air Shooting tournament at Ha Noi-based National Sport Centre on July 12-17.

Athletes from 11 teams are scheduled to contest in the boy's and girl's 10m air rifle and 10m air pistol events.

The annual tournament is the biggest test of the year for teen shooters.

Nguyen Thi That of Vinh Binh Rice Mill won the fourth stage of the National Women's Open Cycling Tournament-An Giang Television Cup yesterday with a time of 2:22.38.

In the 80km stage from Ben Tre City to Vinh Long City, That beat Rhee Chaekyung of South Korea and Tran Thi Phuong Trang of Vinh Binh Rice Mill.

With the win, That took the yellow jersey off Nguyen Thuy Dung with an overall time of 8:51.47. Dung of Binh Duong Environment, Water and Drainage and Nguyen Thi Thanh of Dong Thap Domesco Pharmacy were second and third.

Dong Thap Domesco Pharmacy topped the teams ranking.

Today cyclists will compete in the 95km fifth stage from Vinh Long City to Vi Thanh City.
