Hung wins third round at women's World Youth Chess Championships
Nguyen Thi Mai Hung beat Diana Carime Real Pereyra from Mexico in the third round of the women's U18 event at the World Youth Chess Championships in Slovenia on Saturday.
With two wins and one draw, Hung now has 2.5 points. In the fourth round, she will play Meri Arabidze of Georgia, who has the highest Elo rating in women's event in the tournament.
In the men's U16 event, Le Tuan Minh beat Giacomo Gregori of Italy while Tran Tuan Minh lost to Olexandr Bortnyk of Ukraine in the third round. Both of them have two points and will meet Gary Giroyan of France and Nikoloz Kumsiashvili of Georgia, respectively, in the next round.
Tran Minh Thang and Nguyen Dang Hong Phuc will struggle for another win in the fourth round in the men's U12 event. Except for a win in the first round, Thang had two draws to get two points while Phuc had one draw and one loss to take 1.5 points.
The tournament will wrap up on Sunday.
S Koreans take 15 gold at Asian titles
Lee Yen Ni from Chinese Taipei broke the Asian record in the final day of the Asian Finswimming Championships yesterday in Da Nang.
Lee, 16, finished the women's 200m bi-fins division in 1min 51.18sec to surpass the previous record time of 1:51.34, set by Chinese Zhou Nan in 2009.
The South Korean team topped the medal tally with a haul of 15 golds, seven silvers and five bronzes.
China took second place with 11 golds, 14 silvers and 10 bronzes, while Chinese Taipei came third with three golds, one silver and one bronze.
The final day saw the Korean team dominate the men's 200m surface (with snorkel) and bi-fins events.
You Gyeong-heon swam in 1:22.08 to win gold in the 200m surface, while his teammate Yoon Young-joong came second and China's Zhou Weihang took the bronze medal.
Kim Gwang-mo finished first in the 200m, beating Chinese Taipei's Huang Tsung Nan and Nguyen Ngoc Quang Bao of Viet Nam.
Vietnamese hopeful Vo Thi Kieu, who bagged the first gold medal on Wednesday, could only manage a third-place finish in the women's 800m surface yesterday.
Chinese Sun Yiting finished first in that event, with her teammate Xu Yichuan in second.
In the men's event, Yang Ping Hua from Chinese Taipei sealed victory in a time of 6:33.87. Chinese duo Lu Xiao and Zhou Weihang came in second and third respectively.
Hanoi tops 2012 National Wushu Champs
Martial artists from Hanoi won 16 gold, three silver and four bronze medals to place first at the 2012 National Wushu Championships, which ended in Vinh Phuc province on November 9.

Ho Chi Minh City came second with eight golds, 11 silvers and three bronzes, followed by host Vinh Phuc bagging four golds, one silver and three bronzes.
The event witnessed fierce competition between strong martial artists, who triumphed in various events, such as Hanoi’s Nguyen Chinh (women’s 48kg), Nguyen Thu Hoai (women’s 60kg) and Vu Hoang Trung (men’s 75kg), the Military Club’s Nguyen Xuan Linh (men’s 60kg), the Public Security Club’s Nguyen Huu Quyet (men’s 75kg) , and Ho Chi Minh City’s Tran Duy Phuong (women’s 48kg).
The tournament aimed to select the best martial artists for upcoming international competitions.
Defending champ in shock defeat as Ha Noi's Huyen wins badminton cup
Hanoian badminton player Le Thu Huyen created a stir in the women's singles at the national tournament for best players, known as the Li Ning Cup, when she beat defending champion Vu Thi Trang of Bac Giang in the final on Friday in Hai Duong Province.
Trang took home gold in the women's double after she and her partner beat Nguyen Thi Be Tram and Nguyen Thi Be Duyen of the Military.
The men's events saw the domination of players from HCM City. Nguyen Tien Minh was crowned champion in the men's singles and the duo of Duong Bao Duc and Nguyen Hoang Nam won the men's doubles.
Southeast Asian fencing tournament set to kick off in HCM City
Fencers from six countries will take part in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Fencing Championships in HCM City from today until Friday.
Competitors will vie for medals in three events: foil, sabre and epee.
The tournament at Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium has attracted 133 athletes from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Viet Nam. The hosts will be represented by strong fencers, such as 26th SEA Games gold medalist Nguyen Thi Le Dung and the first Vietnamese fencer to qualify for the Olympics Nguyen Tien Nhat.
