Chien wins golf tourney in Vinh Phuc
Phan Thanh Chien won a golf tournament jointly organised by the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Groups and the State Bank of Viet Nam on Sunday in the northern province of Vinh Phuc. Chien finished with a round of 76 at the Heron Lake Golf Course.
Over 140 golfers competed in three divisions based on their handicaps. Apart from the main prizes, organisers also gave awards to competitors who won technical challenges, including nearest to the pin, nearest to the line and longest drive.
At the awarding ceremony, the organisers donated VND35 million (US$1,700) to support the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans and another VND35 million to a project to build a school for poor children in Mu Cang Chai District, mountainous Yen Bai Province.
Liem to compete at German Chess tournament
International Grand Master Le Quang Liem will be competing at Germany's Weder Bremen chess club during the 12th round of the on-going German Chess tournament (Schachbundesliga) later next month.
Liem, 20, who won the Russian International Chess Festival-Aeroflot Open in Moscow, will team up with IGMs Vulgar Gashimov from Azerbaijan and Hungarian Richard Rappor at the German chess championship this year.
The HCM City-born IGM will also play at the Evry Grand Roque Club for the French Chess League Top 16 this June.
Ajembe leads V-League's top-scorer rankings
Nigerian Timothy Ajembe of Hoa Phat Ha Noi has scored four goals and is now the top scorer in the national football championship, V-League Eximbank Cup.
Argentinean Gaston Merlo of Da Nang is in second place after netting the ball three times. Jamaica's Kavin Bryan of Song Lam Nghe An trails behind with two goals.
Foreign forwards have won the award as the V-League's top scorer since 2003.
