Badminton star Minh ousted from China Open by top seed

Nguyen Tien Minh of Viet Nam was knocked out of the Thaihot China Open badminton tournament yesterday (Nov 12) in Fuzhou City.

The Vietnamese player lost to host rival Chen Long, who is the No 1 seed, 21-17, 21-8.

Minh, who won the National Games' team title last week, will return home to defend his singles crown at the Games later this week.

Da Nang to host national amateur futsal qualifiers

Sixty-four futsal teams in this central city will compete in the qualifying round of the National Amateur Futsal Championship of the Sai Gon Beer Cup from today till Sunday.

The teams will play in a knock-out format on a five-per-side artificial turf for the VND40 million (US$1,900) first prize at the city's East Sea Park. The top two teams will take berths in the final round in Binh Thuan Province's Phan Thiet City next month.

The tournament, the largest amateur futsal championship in Viet Nam, has seen teams competing in the qualifiers in 12 provinces and cites since September. The final round offers cash prizes totalling VND270 million ($13,000).

In the first tournament last year, 1,000 teams took part in the qualifying rounds in 16 provinces and cities.

Da Nang, Sport Clube Capixaba progress to cup semi-finals

Vietnamese SHB Da Nang drew with Sport Clube Capixaba of Brazil 2-2 in the last Group B match of the Binh Duong Television-Number One Cup yesterday (Nov 12) in Binh Duong Province.

Da Nang finished top of the group with five points and will meet a South Korean University Selection Team who finished second in Group A in the semi-finals.

Sport Clube Capixaba also ended the group stage on five points and will play Dong Tam Long An.

In the earlier match in Group B yesterday, Nov 12, Quang Ninh Coal beat Ayeyawadi United 3-0, but both teams are out of the tournament.

The semi-finals will be held on Friday at the Go Dau Stadium.
