Qualifying round of U-15 national football champs to kick off

As many as 23 teams will compete in the qualifying round of the under-15 National Football Championships which will kick off on July 1.

They are divided into three groups. Group A includes eight squads, such as Viettel, Thanh Hoa and Nam Dinh, and will be held at Viettel football centre in Ha Noi. Dac Lac will host seven teams including Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Song Lam Nghe An in Group B. The remaining seven teams, Navibank Sai Gon, Binh Phuoc and Dong Thap will play at the Thong Nhat Physical Training and Sports Centre.

The participating teams will compete in a round-robin format. The first and second placed squads of each group will progress to the next round. A third placed team with highest points will also attend the final round.

The final round will see the participation of eight teams, with seven from the qualifiers and one squad from Promotion Fund of Vietnamese Football Talents.

The tournament is expected to take place on August 15-25 at Thong Nhat Stadium in HCM City.

Ha Noi finishes ahead of Hai Phong to top national archery tournament

Ha Noi led the medal tally at the National Archery Championships with 14 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Hai Phong took the second place with seven gold, three silver and five bronze medals, followed by Soc Trang with two gold, one silver and one bronze medals.

The tournament wrapped up on Monday in Hai Phong City.

Samsung-organised charity run to raise money for children's library

People in HCM City are invited to join the Samsung Electronics Corporation's Samsung Hope Relay – One Step, One Future programme at Crescent Plaza on Sunday.

Participants will have the chance to run alongside the chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem, actress/singer Ngo Thanh Van, singer Ha Anh Tuan and composer/singer Thanh Bui.

With each kilometre, the participants will contribute VND50,000 (US$2.4) to the Smart Library programme which provides books for poor children.

Samsung has also invited Liem and Miss World Vietnamese 2007, Ngo Phuong Lan to attend the Olympic torch procession in Manchester, England on June 21-25.
