Taekwondo to take Latino bow

Viet Nam will take part in the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships at the San Antonio Coliseum in Tunja City, Colombia, on December 6-9.

It will be the first time a world poomsae (performance) has been held in the Americas.

Nguyen Dinh Toan and Nguyen Minh Tu will compete in both individual and double events.

Toan has won the Asian title plus world silver and bronze medals in individual events while twice winning the mixed doubles category paired with Tu.

Tu in October also pocketed an individual world bronze medal and has dominated the regional event for years.

Gymnast Ha Thanh adds to medal tally in China

Nguyen Ha Thanh added one silver and one bronze to Viet Nam's medal haul at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships which are ongoing in Fujian Province, China.

Thanh scored 15.350 points to finish second in the men's horse vault, and 15.750 to take third place in the parallel event.

Viet Nam, after seven days of competition, has earned one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Athletes will compete in the final day today in the men's individual and team all-round events.

Viet Nam are in Group 1 with Pakistan, Iran and Kuwait.

Thanh and his teammate Pham Phuoc Hung, who was one of two Vietnamese Olympians in London, are expected to be in the top three. Hung won a gold medal in September at the World Cup 2012 in Ghent, Belgium.

Cup team blighted by injuries

The Viet Nam national football team have suffered disruption to their build up for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup in Thailand with a number of squad members suffering injuries.

On Monday during practice in Nha Trang City, Chau Le Phuoc Vinh injured his right knee after struggling for the ball with Le Tan Tai, who had just recovered from muscle pain.

According to team's doctors, Vinh will be absent for the next days, but should recover in time for the AFF Cup.

Truong Dinh Luat is another injury doubt after picking up a toe problem rendering him unable to wear shoes.

These fresh ailments are a cause for concern for the coaching staff, as Le Cong Vinh, Nguyen Minh Duc, Pham Nguyen Sa and Tai have only just recovered from their injuries.

The coaching staff will announce a squad of 23 before leaving for Thailand on November 20.

U-22 football squad announced

A squad of Viet Nam's 23 finest players in the U22 team has been unveiled by coaching staff ahead of the 13th Binh Duong Television football championships which kicks off tomorrow.

After an eight-day training camp, the coaches have selected three goalkeepers, seven defenders, nine midfielders and four strikers.

Goalkeeper Pham Van Khai of SHB Da Nang is not on the list, opening the door for fellow keepers Nguyen Thanh Diep of Dong Nai, Huynh Tuan Linh of Quang Ninh Coal and Nguyen Van Hung of Ha Noi who all made the cut.

There are seven defenders in the team, including Nguyen Xuan Hung of Ha Noi T&T and Duong Thanh Hao of Dong Thap. Four of the nine midfielders come from Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Ninh Binh clubs, while Ha Noi sides will produce three of the four strikers.

The team will face Express FC of Uganda on the opening day of the tournament.
