Vovinam eyes SEA Games inclusion
Viet Nam Olympic Committee leaders will be working to get the traditional Vietnamese martial art of Vovinam included at the 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at a two day meeting in Myanmar.
The meeting is being held by the SEA Sports Council and the organising board of the 27th SEA Games this weekend.
Vovinam was included at the 26th SEA Games in Laos and the third Asian Indoors Games in Viet Nam. The martial art has been practised in over 40 countries across the world for nearly a century.
Binh Dinh hosts martial arts festival
More than 1,200 martial artists from 26 countries and territories have registered to take part in the annual event International Martial Arts Festival being held in the central province of Binh Dinh in August. The festival will include combats, performances – and a beauty contest for female contestants. The three-day event will close on August 3.
Trang wins U18 10m air pistol event
Do Thi Trang of Dong Nai won the U18 girls' 10m air pistol event with 374 points at the National Teenage Air Shooting tournament in Ha Noi on Friday.
Nguyen Thi Quynh Nga of the Public Security and Dinh Thu Huong of Hai Duong came in second and third with 363 points and 353 points.
In the U16 girls' 10m air pistol, Nguyen Thi Van Anh of Hai Duong topped the rankings with 370 points. Tran Dieu Anh of Ha Noi and Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen of Quang Ninh were in second and third with 366 points and 363 points.
Ha Noi are leading the medal tally with three gold and two silver medals, followed by Hai Duong and HCM City.
Students set for national sports fest
Nearly 8,000 students will take part in the eighth National Phu Dong Sports Festival in Can Tho Province from July 26 to August 12.
They will compete in 19 events, including track and field, swimming, football, volleyball and badminton.
Four delegations - Can Tho, Da Nang, Ha Noi and HCM City - will participate in all events.
The festival is held every four years to create a playground for secondary and high school students.
Ha Noi lead youth chess champs
Ha Noi retained their lead in the men's U20 group after the second round of the standard event at the National Youth Chess Championships in HCM City on Friday.
With two wins each, Nguyen Van Hai, Tran Tuan Minh and Tran Ngoc Lan lead the field.
In the women's U20 group, Doan Thi Van Anh of Bac Giang tops the table with two points, followed by Le Hoang Tran Chau of HCM City and Tran Thi Ha Minh of Da Nang.
Vu Phi Hung of Quang Ninh leads the rankings in the boys' U17 group while Nguyen Truong Bao Tran is leading in the girls' U17 group.
