Track-and-field athletes to compete on global stage

Viet Nam will take part in five major international track-and-field competitions this year.

The first is the 14th Asian Marathon Championships on February 24 in Hong Kong, while the second is the Asian Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan, on March 10.

The third is the Asian Grand Prix which includes three stages in Bangkok (Thailand) on April 30, in Colombo (Sri Lanka) on May 4 and in Chennai (India) on May 8.

Following this, the next event is the 20th Asian Athletics Championships on July 4-7, also in Chennai.

And the most important one is the 27th Southeast Asian Games in two weeks in December in Myanmar.

Archers rank second in regional competition

Viet Nam took second place in the fifth Southeast Asian (SEA) Archery Championships, which wrapped up in Wunnatheiddhi Archery Court in Zabuthiri township in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar yesterday, Jan 15.

The team bagged four gold, five silver and six bronze medals to rank second behind the hosts Myanmar, who had nine golds, four silvers and three bronzes. Third place went to Malaysia with three golds, four silvers and one bronze.

The event, which offered a chance for teams to hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming SEA Games in Myanmar, attracted the participation of six teams from around the region.

Paulo Owen signs with First Division's Long An

First Division side Dong Tam Long An's executive director Vo Thanh Nhiem has confirmed the signing of Paulo Owen for the new season.

Details of the one-year contract have not been revealed.

Owen is moving to Long An following a spell with Hoang Anh Gia Lai last year.

He will be the team's fourth foreign player in their bid for promotion after being relegated last year.

The new season kicks off in early March.
