Viet Nam lose to UAE but gain experience in friendly match
Viet Nam's U19 team lost to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 3-1 in a friendly match at the Shah Alam stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday.
According to coach Mai Duc Chung the match was a good test for his players before they travel to the 2012 Asia U19 Championship finals in the UAE next month.
The team who returned home yesterday, Oct 15, will take part in a 10-day training programme starting on October 25 at the Aspire Institute in Qatar where they will have two friendly matches with Poland's U21 team.
Binh Duong top team competition in national cycling tourney
Hosts Binh Duong top the team competition at the National Cycling Championships after their leading cyclist Nguyen Thuy Dung won two gold medals yesterday, Oct 15.
Dung finished first in the women's 30km individual point trial in a time of 50.41min, earning 11 points. Earlier, she won the women's 30km individual time trial with a time of 42:49.
In the women's team time trial, An Giang pocketed a gold, finishing the race with 1:08.40, followed by Dong Thap and Can Tho.
In the men's competition, Bui Minh Thuy from Vinh Long successfully defended his time trial title after finishing 40km in 50.16.
HCM City won the men's team time trial gold, followed by Vinh Long and Dong Thap.
Today, cyclists will compete in four events: men's 4km and women's 3km individual time trials, and the men's and women's 500m sprint.
Cyclist wins gold medal in Asian Mountain Bike women's downhill
Vietnamese cyclist Ha Thi Nga won a gold medal in the women's junior 15km downhill race at the Asian Mountain Bike Championships in Lebanon on Sunday.
Her teammate Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen brought home a silver.
Another Vietnamese athlete – Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh – also scored a success in the tournament by bagging a bronze medal in the women's junior 25km downhill race.
Coach Tran Van Quyt said that this was the best result for Vietnamese mountain biking at international level in recent years.
Military team takes lead in Yen Tu mountain marathon
A running team from Viet Nam's People's Army took the lead in Sunday's Yen Tu Mountain Marathon in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The hosts Quang Ninh were the runners up along with a team from Khanh Hoa.
Dong Nai's Nguyen Ngoc Quang and Military team's Phung Kien Hang won the Mountain King and Queen awards.
The event attracted nearly 200 male and female athletes from 10 teams nationwide.
