VN women's volleyball team progresses to semis at VTV Cup
Viet Nam's national volleyball team beat China's Jiangsu 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 at the VTV Cup international women's volleyball tournament yesterday in Vinh Phuc Province.
Although physically stronger, the Chinese players had difficulties in resisting the constant attacks launched by the host team. Vietnamese volleyballers took the lead in all three sets and quickly defeated their Chinese rivals.
Viet Nam took the top position in Group A with three wins. They will meet the second-placed team from Group B in the semi-finals tomorrow, July 20.
In the remaining match in Group A, Bank of South Korea beat the Australian team 25-17, 25-15, 25-22 to finish second, and are set to compete against the top team from Group B.
Vinh Phuc top teen shooting comp
Vinh Phuc won the team competition with seven gold, four silver and one bronze medals at the 17th National Teenager Shooting Tournament in Ha Noi, which wrapped up on Tuesday.
Military were second with four golds, three silvers and four bronzes and Hai Duong took third with four golds, two silvers and two bronzes.
The tournament saw records created in individual and team events. In the team competitions, records belonged to Vinh Phuc in the U16 boys' 10m air rifle with 1,643 points and the hosts in the U18 boys' 10m air pistol with 1,655 points.
In the singles event, Phan Huu Duc of Hai Duong had 573 points, the best achievement in the U18 boys' 10m air rifle (60 bullets), and Do Thu Trang of Dong Nai created a record with 374 points in the U18 girls' 10m air pistol.
Bui Thu Ha of Quang Ninh got the highest result in the U16 girls' 10m air rifle (40 bullets) with 377 points while Nguyen Thi Van Anh of Hai Duong set a record in the U16 girls' air pistol with 370 points.
VN Airlines team take futsal title
Viet Nam Airlines team edged out Hoang Duy 1-0 in the final of the futsal (five-a-side football) tournament, the Larue Cup, and walked away with a cash prize of VND30 million (US$1,400).
Bao Cuong crushed Cafe Tyler 4-1 to rank third.
Da Nang was the last city to host the tournament after HCM City, Ha Noi, Can Tho, Nha Trang, Tien Giang, Dac Lac, Gia Lai, Quy Nhon, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam and Quang Binh.
