Khoi wins in final round of World Chess Champs

Nguyen Anh Khoi beat Andrey Esipenko of Russia in the 11th and final round of the World Youth Chess Championship which wrapped up early yesterday in Maribor, Slovenia.

Vietnamese Khoi was already crowned champion early on Sunday after winning 10 games. He topped the rankings with 11 points, followed by Shant Sargsyan of Armenia (nine points) and L.N. Ram Aravind of India (8.5 points).

Nguyen Thi Mai Hung finished fourth in the girls' U18 event with eight points.

187 marksmen shoot at targets in Hanoi

As many as 187 marksmen began competitions at the 48th annual National Shooting Tournament in Hanoi on November 19.

The 10-day event has attracted shooters from 12 provinces and sectors across the country, namely Haiphong, the Army, Hanoi, HCM City, Thanh Hoa, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, the Ministry of Public Security, Danang, Dong Nai, and the national junior team.

Male athletes are competing in the individual 50m free rifle prone 60 shots, 25m rifle 3 position 3x40, 10m air rifle 60 shots, 50m free pistol 60 shots, 10m air pistol 60 shots, 25m rapid fire pistol 2x30, 25m standard pistol 3x20, 25m sport pistol 30+30, 10m running target 30+30, 10m running target mixed 40 shots, trap, double trap, and skeet.

Meanwhile, female athletes are competing in the individual 50m sport rifle prone 60 shots, 50m sports rifle 3 position 3x20, 10m air pistol 60 shots, 25m sport pistol 30+30, 10m air rifle 40 shots, 10m running target 20+20, 10m running target mixed 40 shots, trap, double trap, and skeet.

The event is being organised by the Vietnam Shooting Federation and the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

Liem draws with China's Ma Qun in Chess Champs

Grandmaster Le Quang Liem drew with China's Ma Qun in the sixth round of the Fujairah International Chess Championship on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates.

Liem is in eighth place with four points after six rounds.

There are three remaining matches to plat before the tournament concludes tomorrow, Nov 19.

Local runner breaks Fansipan climbing record

Hang A Po of Sa Pa set a new record in the Conquer Mount Fansipan climbing tournament in Lao Cai Province on Sunday by reaching the summit's 3,143m peak in one hour 35 minutes.

Starting from Nui Xe forest ranger station of Hoang Lien Son National Park at a height of 1,900m, he broke the old record by 25 minutes set in 2010.

This year's competition attracted 60 local and international athletes.
