Golf Club tour to tee off

Men with a handicap of 32 and women with a handicap of 36 will take part in the individual and team 36-hole stroke-play in two rounds.

At the same time, the 5,500m course, designed by professional golfer Nick Faldo, will also organise the Mercedes Trophy qualifying round.

As scheduled, the club will hold two major tournaments – the 2011 Greater Sai Gon Open on June 3-4 and the Viet Nam Open Championship on October 14-16.

Martial artists win 11 golds

Viet Nam triumphed at the first Asian Pencak Silat Championships which wrapped up in Singapore on Monday.

They brought home 11 golds, six silvers and four bronzes in both combat and performance events. The hosts, Singapore, were runners-up with Indonesia.

Last year, Viet Nam succeeded in defending its title at the World Pencak Silat Championships held in Indonesia with eight gold medals.

Vinatex sponsors football tourney

The Viet Nam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) will sponsor the National Women's Football Championship this year.

The price for the contract has yet to be announced, but a source said it's around VND1 billion (US$50,000).

The annual championship, which began in the northern province Ha Nam on April 9, has drawn six teams in a two-leg round-robin format.

Hoa triumphs in 125cc race

Racer Le Huy Hoa of Thanh Dat Racing Boy team won the National 125cc Motorcycle Race, National Top Clubs Cup, in Dac Lac on Monday.

The event, which is organised annually by the Viet Nam Cycling Federation, attracted thousands of spectators.

Minh Giai Racing Boy's Nguyen Viet Linh came in second, while Pham Chi Trong of Tri My Ngoc finished third.

Although Viet Nam's first professional 125cc motorcycling team, RebelUSA, also competed, they failed to win.

At the same event held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho last year, Tran Ngoc Sang of HCM City took the title.
