Men's chess team beat Mongolia
Viet Nam's men's team beat Mongolia 3-1 in the fourth round of the Asian Chess Cup in China on Sunday.
In the first and second boards, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son tied with Bayarsaikhan Gundavaa and Munkhgal Gombosuren, but in the two remaining boards, Nguyen Duc Hoa and Dao Thien Hai defeated Battulga Namkhai and Nasanjargal Urtnasan.
They will meet China 1 in the next round.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's team drew with China 3 2-2. Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung defeated Zhai Mo and Li Xueyi in the first and fourth boards, while in the second and third boards, Nguyen Thi Thanh An and Pham Bich Ngoc lost to Ren Xiaoyi and Lei Tingjie.
They will compete against China 2 in the fifth round.
Hosts Khanh Hoa pound Binh Thuan
Hosts Khanh Hoa crushed Binh Thuan 6-2 in Group A of the on-going National Beach Football Championships in the coastal city of Nha Trang yesterday, May 21.
The championships, which opened on Saturday, has drawn eight teams to compete in two round-robin groups.
The two top teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals on Friday.
The winners will walk away with a cash-prize of VND30 million (US$1,500) after the final on Sunday.
The organising committee will also award the Best Player, Top Scorer, Best Goalkeeper and Fair-Play Team.
AVC publishes draws for 2012
The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) has published the results of the draw for this year's tournament.
The third AVC Cup for men will be held from September 1-7 in Viet Nam's Vinh Phuc Province. The hosts will join Group A with South Korea, Japan and Pakistan. Group B includes Iran, China, Australia and India.
The third AVC Cup for women will take place from September 10-16 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Group A sees the participation of Kazakhstan, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand while Group B comprises China, Japan, Viet Nam and Iran.
The 16th Asian Junior Women's Championships will be held from October 1-9 in Thailand. The hosts have been drawn in Group A with Iran, Thailand, New Zealand, Turkmenistan and Kuwait. Viet Nam join Group B with China, Mongolia and India. Group C consists of South Korea, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka while Group D includes Japan, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Malaysia.
Military players win doubles title
Huynh Chi Khuong and Tran Thanh Hoang of the Military team won the doubles event at the national men's tennis championships in Binh Dinh Province on Sunday.
The pair came from behind to defeat Do Minh Quan and Le Quoc Khanh of Tanimex HCM City by two sets to one in the final. Quan and Khanh beat them 6-3 in the first set, but they came back to take the second set 6-3 before closing the match out in the third.
Earlier, Quan beat teammate Pham Huu Vinh 6-4, 6-2 to win the singles event.
