Meanwhile, the national women's team tied with Kazakhstan. Despite having higher rankings than their rivals, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Hoang Thi Nhu Y could not manage to make them count.
They will next meet China 1.
VN gymnasts get set to compete in World Cup
The Vietnamese gymnastics team is training in China to prepare for the coming World Cup, to be held in Belgium from June 5-11.
The team includes Phan Thi Ha Thanh and Pham Phuoc Hung - both high-flying gymnasts who won tickets to compete at the London Olympics in July.
Do Thi Ngan Thuong, who has also received an Olympic card, will not compete in the seven-day Word Cup as she is suffering from an ankle injury.
The tournament held by the World Gymnastics Federation attracts leading teams form around the world. It will give Vietnamese gymnasts a chance to hone their skills in preparation for London.
Off-road racing heads to Viet Nam's Ha Long Bay
The first off-road racing championship in the country, the Ha Long Challenger 2012, will be held in the northern province of Quang Ninh on June 2-3.
The event will draw the participation of 20 teams, including 40 car racers from Ha Noi and HCM City.
Participants will be divided into under 2,000cc, 2,000-3,000cc, and over 3,000cc categories and race over six increasing stages of difficulty.
Luis JA Wee, founder of the Rainforest Challenge in Malaysia, will be technical consultant during the two-day event, according to Tran Manh Hung, chairman of the Ha Noi Off-road Club (HOC) and a member of the event's organising board.
The tournament is co-organised by the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the HOC.
