Footballers to convene for Asia U-19 Women's Championship

Twenty-six Vietnamese footballers will convene for the final round of the Asia U-19 Women's Football Championship 2011, formerly known as the AFC Youth Championship, in HCM City from October 6-16.

Nine of the team play for Ha Noi and won the silver medal at the recent National U-19 Women's Football Championship, seven are from present champions Ha Nam, six from HCM City, three from Viet Nam Coal and Mineral and one from Thai Nguyen.

The team will train at HCM City's Thong Nhat Stadium for a month, where they will also hold friendly matches.

After successfully competing in the second qualifying round, the Vietnamese U-19 team enters the final round with Japan, South Korea, North Korea, China and Australia.

ASEAN Football Federation scraps Asian Futsal tourney

The Vietnamese futsal team lost their chance to hone their skills for the upcoming 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after the ASEAN Football Federation officially cancelled the 2011 Southeast Asian Futsal tournament scheduled to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The hosts Indonesia suggested that the tournament should be held in December after the 26th SEA Games and the qualifying round for 2012 Asian Futsal Championships finish. However, this proposal was not supported by participating countries.

The team will instead compete in the Thang Long International Futsal Tournament in Ha Noi from October 5-10.

The Viet Nam Football Federation will also hold training sessions for the teams in order to improve skills and tactics.

Vietnamese shooters to defend title at 35th SEASA tournament              

The Viet Nam Shooting Federation will field a 30-member squad at the upcoming 35th Southeast Asian Shooting Association tournament (SEASA) which will take place in Vientiane, Laos from September 3-12.

With the aim of defending their title, the team will include the nation's leading shooters such as Dang Hong Ha, Cu Thi Thanh Tu, Ha Minh Thanh, Hoang Xuan Vinh and Pham Ngoc Thanh. They will compete in 36 disciplines.

According to head coach Nguyen Thi Nhung, Viet Nam will send its best athletes to participate in the tournament in preparation for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November.

At last year's event in Indonesia, Viet Nam triumphed with 17 gold medals.
