Ha Noi hold on to retain HCM City futsal title

Ha Noi defeated Thai Son Nam District 8 5-3 in a penalty shootout to defend their title at the HCM City's Women's Futsal Open tournament on Monday.

The two sides were drawing 1-1 after extra time.

Third place went to HCM City's Tao Dan Club. It was the second time the tournament has been held, and it provided a rare chance for players from across the country to show off their skills.

Ninh Binh's Farias gains Vietnamese citizenship

Brazilian footballer Rodrigo Mota Farias of Vissai Ninh Binh was granted Vietnamese citizenship on Monday.

The 28-year-old has been one of the top foreign players at the club for the past five years, and has adopted the new name Dinh Van Ta.

"I am Vietnamese now and happy about that. It's given me an incentive to contribute more to the club," Ta said.
Two other Ninh Binh players have received Vietnamese citizenship: goalkeeper Dinh Hoang La and striker Dinh Hoang Max.

Nam stops at Abierto Juvenil Mexicano

Viet Nam's tennis representative Ly Hoang Nam was ousted from the Abierto Juvenil Mexicano in both singles and doubles events early this morning in Mexico City.

Nam, 15, lost 3-6 6-4 6-7 (2) to Dennis Uspensky of the US in the second round.

The Vietnamese player's loss was unexpected, as Uspensky was ranked much lower than Nam in the youth table. Nam was ranked 276th while Uspensky was 352nd.

Earlier in the day, Nam failed to get a win in the boy's doubles category when paired with host player Adrian Ortiz. The two were beaten 3-6, 6-3 [2-10] by the No 5 seed duo

Tommy Mylnikov of Canada and Martin Redlicki of the US.

Nam's next destinations will be Costa Rica and Venezuela.

Dung claims Motorcross Challenge crown

Dang Trung Dung of HCM City's Con Cao Cao Motor Club won the professional category at the Motorcross Enduro Challenge Open which wrapped up in Lam Dong Province on Sunday.

Dang Nhat Minh and Vuong Cao Lam Hai finished second and third, respectively.

In the semi-pro event, Dang Quoc Tuan, also from Con Cao Cao, took the title, followed by Le Luong Son Tu and Nguyen Trung Dung.

More than 40 racers participated in the competition across a 1.5km muddy off-road course.
