Viet Nam ranked second at world taekwondo event

Viet Nam won three golds, four silvers and one bronze to be ranked second at the 6th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships which wrapped up in Russia on Sunday.

First place went to South Korea with Russia, Iran and Chinese Taipei joint third.

On the final day of the competition, Nguyen Thi Huyen Dieu won a bronze medal in the women's 31-40 singles age group while the men's U-36 team, consisting of Nguyen Dinh Toan, Le Trung Anh and Le Anh Minh, won the championship title.

Viet Nam won an additional gold medal on Sunday thanks to trio Thu Ngan, Tuyet Van and Le Kim who took part in the women's U-36 team category.

The tournament drew 700 athletes from 70 teams around the world.

 Da Nang defend U-17 football crown

SHB Da Nang managed to defend their crown at the 2011 National U-17 Football Championship, Thai Son Nam Cup, after beating Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) by 2-1 in the final match of the tournament in Nha Trang city over the weekend.

Anh Tuan helped Da Nang take the lead in the 36th minute with Hoang Lam from HAGL equalising the score nine minutes later.

During the 58th minute, Viet Thang helped Da Nang bring the score to 2-1, which remained unchanged until the final whistle.

While Viettel and Khataco Khanh Hoa shared the third prize, Da Nang's Dang Anh Tuan received the best player award, Huynh Ba Lenh that for best goalkeeper and, with four goals each, Nguyen Viet Thang and Song Lam Nghe An's Ho Tuan Tai shared the top scorer title.

The champions received VND100 million (US$4,700) in cash while second and third placed teams got VND60 million ($2,900) and VND40 million ($1,900), respectively.

In addition, the best player, top scorer and best goalkeeper each received VND5 million ($240). 

Lam nominated as football federation referee chief

Deputy Chairman of the ASEAN Football Federation Duong Vu Lam was nominated as AFF referee chief at an annual meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Additionally, Viet Nam Football Federation's general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan was assigned to the AFF competition and finance section.

It is the first time that a Vietnamese representative has held such a high position at the AFF.

The 2012 AFF Cup qualifying rounds are planned to be held in Myanmar on October 5-13, the final round to be organised in Malaysia and Thailand from November 24 to December 22 next year. 

PVF U-11 team wins national junior football champs

PVF U-11 team crushed Hai Duong 2-0 in the final match of the National Junior Football Tournament in the Central Highlands Province of Dac Lac on Sunday.

Tuyen Quang and Quang Ngai took joint third place.

Sixteen teams nationwide competed in the tournament's final round which kicked off on July 22.

The tournament, made up of 31 matches, is aimed at creating a useful playing field for children during their summer vacation and national team selection.
