Vietnam’s flag hoisted at Paralympic London

The Vietnamese flag was raised at the Olympic Park in London on August 27, marking the official participation of the Vietnamese sports delegation to the Paralympic London 2012.

The Vietnamese delegation to the Games includes 11 athletes, who will compete in weight-lifting, track-and-field and swimming.

This is the third time Vietnam has joined the games for disabled athletes.

An opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games will take place on August 29, which expects to draw 4,200 athletes competing for 20 sets of golds.

Military takes lead at national boxing event

The Military team took the lead at the National Boxing Championships, which wrapped up in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on Sunday.

The team brought home six golds, five silvers and two bronzes. Ha Noi came in second with five golds, two silvers and two bronzes. The Police received third place with three golds and five bronzes.

The event attracted nearly 200 boxers from 26 cities and provinces, who competed for 21 sets of medals. Male athletes competed in 11 weight categories from 46kg to 91kg, while female boxers fought in 10 weight divisions from 45kg to 81kg.

The athletes who performed best at the event will be chosen for the national team in preparation for the 27th Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Indoor Games next year.

Nam wins boys' singles event at ITF junior champs

Youngster Ly Hoang Nam won the boys' singles event at the International Tennis Federation's Viet Nam Junior Championships after beating No 1 seed Chih Chun Tang from Chinese Taipei in Hue City on Sunday.

Having lost the first set 6-3, Nam rallied back and powered to victory in the second and third sets 6-2, 7-6 (1) respectively.

Nam's teammate, Ho Huynh Dan Mach, also enjoyed the sweet taste of glory after winning the boys' doubles event with his partner Congsup Congcar from Thailand.

The girls' singles and doubles events were all won by Taiwanese players, including Chang Ya Ting in the singles and couple Huang En Pei and Ma Yi Chi in the doubles.

Viet Nam's U14 tennis players train in Thailand     

Eight of Viet Nam's most talented U14 tennis players are attending a training course in Bangkok, Thailand. They are top ranking athletes of the Viet Nam Tennis Federation following the three most recent tournaments for teenagers.

The course will finish on September 8.

The federation also intends to send a promising U16 Vietnamese player to train at the Melbourne International Tennis School in Singapore from September 15 to October 5.
