Juniors win two golds at ping pong


Viet Nam won two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships which wrapped up on Sunday at Hai Duong Gymnasium.

The winners were Le Tien Dat and Nguyen Thi Viet Linh in the boys' and girls' U-18 singles categories respectively.

Linh beat Thailand's Rattanatorn 4-0 while Dat beat Singapore's Tay Kiat 4-1.

Viet Nam also won one silver and seven bronze medals, ranking third after five days of competition. Singapore was first with six gold, two silver and six bronze medals, followed by Thailand with three gold, seven silver and three bronze.

It was the first time the country had hosted a regional junior tournament. More than 100 players attended, coming from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam.

They competed in U-18 and U-15 age groups for 11 medal sets in the boys' and girls' singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team events.

Last year, Viet Nam bagged two gold, one silver and four bronze medals at the tournament.


Boxers to compete in Indonesia


Vietnamese boxers are set to compete in the 21st Indonesian President Cup at the Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on July 2-9.

The event is set to attract the participation of 25 teams from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Botswana, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines and Russia.

Viet Nam will have an excellent opportunity to hone their skills via this tournament in preparation for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia this November.


Anh, Huyen strike gold in Kenya


Le Ha Anh and Le Thu Huyen won a gold medal in the mixed doubles event at the Kenya Badminton Open on Monday.

The Hanoians defeated top seeded Dorian James and Michelle Edwards from Saudi Arabia 2-1 (23-25, 21-14, 21-19) in the final match.

It is the first time that Anh and Huyen have managed to win an international title.


Thailand top women's volleyball


Thailand won the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship which wrapped up in Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc Province, over the weekend.

China and Kazakhstan ended second and third respectively while Viet Nam ended in fourth place, its best result to date.

The ten-day event attracted the participation of eight teams including Japan's Kensyokai Red Hearts, Iran's Perspolise, Indonesia's Garuda, Thailand's Chang, the Philippines, China's Tianjin Bridgestone, Kazakhstan's Zhetyssu and Viet Nam.
