Vietnam loses chance to play in AFC Champions League

The disappointing results from Vietnamese football clubs in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League have cost them the chance to compete in the next tournament.

The champion club of the V-League has not qualified to play in the 2011-2012 AFC Champions League final round. It also loses the chance to secure a place in the tournament via the play-offs. It has to settle for playing in the AFC Cup instead.

The place that formerly belonged to the Vietnamese team will be handed to a football club from Qatar which means that T&T Hanoi will automatically compete in the AFC Cup.

Last season, V-League defending champions, SHB Da Nang, lost their play-off match with Muang Thong from Thailand and will have to compete in the AFC-Cup.
