Top seeds cruise to next round of national volleyball tournament

Top seeds Phan Thi Cam Hong and Nguyen Thi Tiep from HCM City cruised to a 2-0 (21-6, 21-13) win over Tran Thi Trong and Pham Le Tuyet Ngan from Khanh Hoa in the opening day of the National Beach Volleyball Championships yesterday, May 30.

Do Thi Hau and Hoang Thi Huyen from Hai Phong took an easy win (21-4, 21-7) over Da Nang's Pham Thi Vy and Tran Thi Trang.
In the men's side, HCM City's Pham Anh Tuan and Lam Kim Trong struggled to beat Vo Thanh Nhan and Huynh Ngoc Vinh Phuc of Khanh Hoa 21-15, 16-21, 15-9.

Nguyen Trong Quoc and Nguyen Thanh Vinh of Khanh Hoa beat their fellow-countrymen Tran Ngoc Ly and Nguyen Thanh Nam 21-15, 21-19.

The championship, which opened at Da Nang's Dana Beach and Resort, has drawn 44 men's and women's players from 22 teams competing in groups competition for total cash-prize of US$2,800.

The final will be played on Saturday.

Thanh Hoa's Teferra fined VND20 million, suspended

Football player Lemessa Fikru Teferra from Thanh Hoa Club will be suspended and fined VND20 million by the disciplinary board of the Viet Nam Football Federation (VFF).

The board announced yesterday that the player will not be allowed to play in the next four matches due to his kicking a Ha Noi T&T's player and his reaction to the match's referee in the 19th round at central Thanh Hoa Province's stadium last weekend.
The organisation board of the match will be also fined VND30 million.

Ha Noi 2 draw 2-2 with Thai Nguyen Iron and Steal

Ha Noi 2 tied with Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel 2-2 on Tuesday to finish fifth in the standings at the National Women's Football Championships.

The first half finished goalless, but in the second half, Luong Thi Xuyen put Thai Nguyen in front in the 55th minute. Five minutes later, Ha Noi 2 equalised thanks to Nguyen Thi Dang's shot, and took the lead with a second goal in the 70th minute from Nguyen Thi Hue.

Thai Nguyen went on the attack in search of an equaliser, and although they were able to find one, they remain rooted to the bottom of the table.
