Viet Nam beat Jordan in U19 football opener
Viet Nam came from behind to beat hosts Jordan 2-1 in the first match of the Asian U-19 Football Championship’s Group C in Shandong, China.
Zatara opened the score for the hosts in the 37th minute, while Quoc Phuong levelled the scores in the 55th from a 30m free kick. Van Thanh scored Viet Nam’s winning goal with a shot that deflected off Jordanian player Abdel Aziz Nawaf in the 72nd minute.
In the other group match, Japan defeated the UAE 2-1 to share top spot with Viet Nam. The two winners will meet each other in the second match today, Oct 6.
Hai to take over Lam Son Thanh Hoa coaching job
Coach Le Thuy Hai will take charge of Lam Son Thanh Hoa Football Club
for the next two seasons following a contract signed at the weekend.

Hai and the club managers discussed contract details that included plans and team targets for the next two seasons.
His salary was not disclosed, but according to sources close to the team, he will receive VND80 million (US$4,100) per month, a 20 per cent cut on what he received when he managed Ninh Binh in 2008. Hai holds the record for the highest coaching salary in Vietnamese football history.
The 46-years-old will be assisted by coach Xuan Manh who joins Thanh Hoa from Ninh Binh and goalkeeping trainer Van Sinh from Quang Ninh.
Hai who previously worked for Thanh Hoa in 2003, will begin work on October 16.
Athletes win four gold medals at Thai tourney
Truong Thanh Hang pocketed two of Viet Nam’s four gold medals at the Thailand Open Track and Field Championships in Bangkok.
Hang crossed the finish line first in the women’s 1,500m and 800m events.
The runner’s victories put her in good standing to place at the 16th Asian Games next month in Guangzhou, China.
On the last day of competition on Monday, the "iron man" Vu Van Huyen also pocketed a gold in the men’s decathlon event.
Tran Cong Phuoc brought home the final gold in the men’s high jump event.
Three players sidelined by injury miss trip to India
Defenders Doan Viet Cuong, Le Tan Tai and Nguyen Minh Chau did not travel to India for a friendly because of injury.
Tai has a torn stomach muscle, which will see him miss full training; Cuong needs a week to recover from a stretched left knee ligament while Chau has chicken pox.
The national team left for India yesterday, Oct 5, for their Friday fixture.
