National Badminton Top Players compete in Hai Duong
The National Badminton Top Players Championships-the first Lining Cup opened in the northern province of Hai Duong on November 5.

The event has drawn 14 teams from 12 cities and provinces, the Army and the Ministry of Public Security.
Forty-seven badminton players will compete in five events, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed couples.
After the opening ceremony, Vietnam’s No.1 badminton player Nguyen Tien MInh (Ho Chi Minh City) defeated Nguyen Hoang Hai (the Army) 21/9 and 21/17.
Total prizes are estimated at VND155 million. The championship title will be awarded VND10 million, and the second, third and fourth places VND6 million, VND4 million and VND3 million, respectively.
The tournament will be live broadcast on Sports TV channel until its closing ceremony on November 9.
Eagle-eye Trang on target to set new record at national archery event
Nguyen Thi Quyen Trang won a gold medal and set a new national record in the women's recurve (one-stringed bow) at the ongoing National Archery Championships in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
Soc Trang's Trang scored 1,319 points to beat Hanoian Loc Thi Dao's old record of 1,302 points.
Dao also scored 1,316 to brake her old record and claim the silver medal.
In the men's compound (three-stringed bow) event, Nguyen Tien Cuong from Ha Noi took the title with 1,384 points.
The event will finish on Friday.
Trang to compete in Russian world chess competition
Hoang Thanh Trang, formerly of Viet Nam, will compete in the Women's World Chess Championships 2012 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from November 9 to December 3.
Trang will compete alongside 27 other European women in this year's event, which is expected to attract 64 players.
Trang is seeded No 22 and will meet Russian Evgenija Ovod in her first match.
Trang is a Hungarian Grand Master who was born in Ha Noi and moved to Budapest with her family at the age of 10.
Her victories include the 1998 World Girls Junior (U20) Championship, the 2005 European Chess Club Championship and the 2011 European Women's Rapid Championship.
Viet Nam has no representatives at the tournament after failing at the regional qualifying rounds.
Viet Nam U19s fail to match classy Uzbekistan in AFC Championships
The Vietnamese U19 team lost 4-0 to Uzbekistan in their first match at the Asian Football Confederation U19 Championships in Ras Al Khaimah City, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday.
Uzbekistan top Group C after the defending champions North Korea were held to a 1-1 draw by Jordan.
In Group A, underdogs Iran smashed Japan 2-0 and the hosts UAE drew 1-1 with Kuwait, while in Group B Thailand beat China 2-1 to claim top spot.
Viet Nam will meet North Korea today and play Jordan on Thursday.
