Trung aims for a Paralympic berth

Swimmer Nguyen Thanh Trung will have his sights firmly fixed on a Paralympic berth at the British International Disability Swimming Championships that starts in Sheffield City today, April 6.

Trung won Viet Nam one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the ASEAN ParaGames in Indonesia last year during his international debut.

His result of 53.50sec in the 50m backstroke passed the 56sec A standard while his time of 2:1.50 in the 100m breaststroke surpassed the B standard of 2:3.00.

The championships, to take place at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, will squeeze 24 events into three days' of action with plenty to look forward to on each day.

Navibank Sai Gon defeat Ayeyawady

Navibank Sai Gon beat Ayeyawady United of Myanmar 4-1 in their final group match of the first leg of the AFC Cup at Thong Nhat Stadium on Wednesday.

With this win, Navibank Sai Gon are on top of Group H with seven points after three matches.

The hosts' Colombian striker Fonseca Edison scored a hat trick in the 38th, 65th and 85th minute. Van Nghia scored another goal in the 42th minute.

Meanwhile, Sai Than Aung pulled one goal back for the visitors right after the break.

In another match, Hong Kong champions Kitchee maintained a third consecutive win in Group F with a 2-0 victory over V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An.

Sai Gon Heat beat Indonesia Warriors

Sai Gon Heat defeated the Indonesia Warriors 88-86 at HCM City's Tan Binh Gymnasium in the 14th round of the ongoing ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) on Wednesday.

The Heat lost both games against the Warriors so far this season with the Warriors beating them 96-76 on February 4 and 72-68 on March 17.

With this win, the Heat still have a chance to finish the season among the top four and advance to the ABL playoffs.

The Heat will next take on the Thailand Slammers during an away game tomorrow, April 7.
